Thanks everyone who commented. I was able to get my problem rectified once I talked to a very nice lady at Direct TV. In a matter of moments, she resolved my issues. It was just a matter of rebooting my router (first) and then resetting my Direct TV box (second). It only worked in that order. Everything is up and running. Thanks again.

May 5, 2022 · On Thursday evening I watched more than 3 hours of TV using the app through Roku. There was not one instance of the volume going up and down during the entire period. Last night, I watched using the box. The volume started fluctuating almost immediately and kept up through another 2 hours of viewing. And this was on the same TV. The options in the dedicated DIRECTV STREAM box and the downloadable app (such as on the Firestick), have different options. The "Are you still watching" is common on downloadable apps, so not exclusive to DIRECTV STREAM.
