Home-Building a CETME/HK-G3/PTR Rifle. So the latest rifle project I have officially kicked off is an HK/CETME/PTR rifle. My end goal for this build is to end up with an HK-G3 rifle, using a combination of CETME, PTR, and HK parts. I am also building off an Ohio Rapid Fire 80% flat. The first step was to acquire some flats.

About a year ago InRangeTV did a series of (very good) tutorial videos on building a CETME-L kit, so check those out to get some insight. I know the L is 5.56 and the C is 7.62NATO, but I am pretty sure the process would be very similar, if not the same. ETA: Here's video 1 of their series to get you started.
The CETME-L from MarColMar is a reliable, and good looking stamped, roller delayed rifle. It is about the best thing that could have happened to all those CETME-L parts kits. Objectively, my sample of one was 100% reliable across 5 different magazines and 7 different loadings of ammunition, including different bullet profiles.

While de milling my kit I accidentally cut into the the top part of the cocking tube extension and while removing the welds with a chisel deformed it a bit so the top of the bolt carrier will not slide into the cocking tube. G3 is better all around. Buttstocks and backplates, you can get an HK backlplate assembly to interchange with a CETME if you use a cetme guide ring and end stop (sorry but proper term eluding me). The parts are not interchangeable between stock assemblies other than that. 2nd, pressing barrels.

Outside of that they are practically worthless. To have a pro build one you'll spend twice as much money on the rifle than it'll be worth when completed.
