STR build is more leaning toward melee combat, since most of the good STR weapons are heavy, you might need to invest more points on endurance, also STR gives physical defense. DEX build is more of a mid range combat build, imo. Less points are needed to invest on vigor and endurance, more fp point and faith can be added.

It is my first souls game and i got lvl 105 with a pure katana dex build. It was so challenging i stopped playing for 3 months… I started playing again and i did respec to an int build with a moonveil katana. And it got easy. Maybe too much. I miss the challenge and satisfaction when defeating a strong enemy.Whips are more about utility than damage since they got good range,stagger and status build up but low damage and long animations.
