We make several trips every year for the last 20 or so years to fish and vacation. My impression taking account the last 20 years of traveling there is it dramatic increase in petty types of crime, poverty and homelessness. Two hotels I'd say aren't quite as nice but are decent (not too many shady people, clean enough, etc) are LaQuinta and the Quality Inn by the casino. Worked at both, and I'd stay at them myself.
