I have a friend who has a 1989 XR4 that has the oil injection pump removed and an aftermarket block-off kit installed. The "low oil alarm" goes off constantly. How can we correctly delete that part of the alarm while leaving the water temp circuit intact? Re: 1988 mercury 80 hp oil injection issue. I had one of similar vintage. I got it new. The dealer strongly advised me to mix the oil at 50:1 in the tank. I did so and never had any trouble. Some other folks experienced the problems that come with inadequate oil flow. I never put any oil In that reservoir, always 50:1 in the fuel tank.
