The MCX upper will be a "muffin top" on any standard AR lower, as it's wider than the standard AR upper. Also, it will not work on an LMT MARS-L ambi lower. There isn't enough clearance for the right side bolt release lever. My 11.5" 5.56 MCX upper currently resides on my SBR Radian A-DAC ambi lower. Only reason I bought an MCX is I got bored with AR's. It is nice to have the easy barrel swap ability, I have both a 16" 5.56 and 16" .300 on hand, but the same can be said with an AR by just swapping uppers which you could probably buy a completed upper cheaper than an MCX barrel alone.

The extractor kit comes with pins and springs with inserts for a much more reasonable price. The bolt for the Spear in 7.62x39 is completely different. I suspect that the Virtus bolt and the Spear 5.56 bolt are the same, but I don't know for certain.
