Homepod blinking volume.
Last week one of them became unresponsive (flashing volume buttons, could not reset). I called support who sent me to the store. The store said it’s dead and wanted $270 to get a new replacement.

My thoughts are now: a.) buy a set of gen2 (580€ refurbished) b.) buy a used gen1 off eBay (180-200€) Are there any reports of the gen2 concerning the cracking noise (and dying) or other problems like gen1?
The homepod will boot into recovery mode indicated with flashing volume buttons if it's unable to boot the OS. It's extremely similar behavior to the Apple TV when it bricks itself and needs a software restore (it blinks the LED). There is USB access. There is an ability to restore the software.
Unfortunately St. Tim won’t release the restore IPSW to the public so it doesn’t matter. Also worth nothing that I’m not sure blinking volume lights or spinning circle are a software issue. Software doesn’t randomly corrupt itself.
